My best years of my life back in the early eighties! I was a big time graffiti artist and still attended classes, I've never forgotten those years. It was a rough time but the music and styles were better then today, it was real (word)

My freshman year was 83/84. It was rough. Had a percussion teacher named Schankel, or something like that. He used to smoke weed with student's. He was a real pos.

I graduated in 82. I started at the school the year after it reopened for a "reconstruction period". I saw incredible amounts of violence, both student on student and student on faculty. They realigned the school boundaries in 1978 without notifying the residents that were to be affected by this change and a week before school started I was notified that I WAS NOT going to attend John Adams but I was reassigned to Lane. My parents tried to fight it but to no avail.... to top it off, there was no bus service near my house so I had to walk to and from school every day... nearly 3.5 miles... to get to HELL. I received an excellent education because I ended up in classes that were being "watched" by the city comptroller but I'm sure that after the 5-year plan ended the school returned to total chaos... as noted by the closure a few years ago

The great students and dedicated teachers during the 70s and 80s made this a wonderful place to teach. Then the NYC Board of Education decided to destroy what was an up and coming educational institution. This was a racist, deliberate decision made by a group of white people in suits at the Board and in the Mayors office. It is a shame and the fact that the Federal government let them get away with it is a disgrace.
