I had to exchange a pen my daughter got as a gift as they sent the wrong one. I went to the store where they apologized and swapped it no problem.

I did not have a personal experience with a staff member, but I did overhear a conversation between another customer and a staff member of Fountain Pen Hospital. The customer had brought back a pen due to skipping, and as he was trying to explain the concern/problem to the staff member, the store rep. interrupted with, "Yeah, yeah, you want to return it." Had he just taken a moment to acknowledge the customer's valid concern that he liked the pen, but that it was skipping, the exchange would have left a better impression on me. However, the store rep. was rude, nasty, impatient, and disrespectful. I grabbed the $1000 budget I had intended on spending on a brand new pen ( I was looking for a Pelikan ) and I walked out of the store. I had read other reviews from customers commenting on how rude store staff members are, but I didn't believe it. That is, until I witnessed such disrespect for myself the one and only time I was at the store. Very disappointed.

I have been buying pens and seeking advice from the FPH for much more than a decade now and have a great deal of respect for the team, the products and service provided. There is no other company that I could find that provides the range product choice or the level of professional assistance the FPH offers.

Sensational selection of pens, particularly very hard to find "near mint", fully working fountain pens from early to mid-Century. They also do repairs on collectible pens; you can mail them the pen for a free estimate, and they pay for return shipment even if you do not get a repair. This is the "go to" place for fountain pen devotee, especially if you are looking for a one-of-a kind gift (e.g. a Jif-Waterman (France) Panta - 4- Color Pencil - Gold Filled, 1950) ... good selection of top grade ballpoints and rollerballs as well. And, oh yes, they do also sell new brands as well. I've made 8x purchases over the past 5 years and every writing implement I've bought still works beautifully.
