Fort Jay was a really awesome landmark to check out. Our Ranger guide, Stuart Elefant, was exceptionally eloquent and knowledgeable about the history and significance of this military marvel. A must see site on this island.

be careful! yes it is a quiet nice place. a nice quiet place for meditation, reflection to a breathtaking view. except this time I thought i'd have to spend the night there and be a prisoner. They locked Fort Jay at approximately 6-10pm when i was finishing meditation. so i came down and the gate was locked. there was no way i could get out. Do not think of jumping! it's way too high. the only option is to yell for help. at some point there was no people around and i freaked out cuz the last boat leaves at 7pm... on the other hand if you are looking to spend an adventurous night with your partner, it is a place for you.

Well I just love Governors Island , this is one few really good perks which NYC has to be offer. There is so much one can do at this island family picnics, biking or maybe just relax. I would recommend getting a bike to explore the island, there are few vendors on island which rent out bikes and surreys.

The island is very well maintained and offers amazing views of Statue of liberty, Downtown Manhattan and Brooklyn. Best way to enjoy here is to come for a day picnic with family or friends and bring your own food. We had a great time last weekend here on a day picnic. There are few food vendors on the island in the food court area though the options are limited.

FYI - To avoid buying $3-$4 bottles of water at the food court, bring your own water bottle and fill it up at the water fountain right at the island entrance, that's probably the only water fountain we were able to locate.
