A Brooklyn institution.
When I got my own place near Farrell's, my mom gave me 3 rules: don't smoke in the street, never go to Farrell's, and I can't remember the third thing. But I'm sure I broke that rule too. Historically, Farrell's has had a distinctly manly vibe (think "Marlboro man"); it's a no nonsense, blue collar, old school bar. There's no ironic mustaches here, no hipster bs, and no craft beer.

This bar was founded by Michael Farrell from our parish of Killoe, in County Longford, here in Ireland. He emigrated to America in the early 1900s. In April 1912 his brother James set out on the ill fated Titanic to join his brother in New York. When the Titanic struck an iceberg in the north Athlantic, and began to sink, James fought to ensure to get a number of people, including two local girls from his home parish, to the upper decks and the lifeboat. James lost his life that night, the last sighting of him was kneeling on the deck of the Titanic, rosary beads in hand, praying. On the 100th anniversary of the disaster, Michael Farrell's son, Dr. James Farrell, unveiled a memorial in James' home parish to his uncles memory. James Farrell has been portrayed in musicals and films, including James Cameron's 'Titanic'.

Farrels. Was always a favorite MILITARY, POLICE, AND FIREMANS SALOON. The Bilotta boys always enjoyed a few cold ones here. In the 40s 50s and 60s Farells was a fine mens saloon.
