Reviews to Eye & Health
My name is Patrik Schmidt, I am a medical intern at Co-op Village NORC. I have an elderly client, Shirley Birnbaum, who has asked me to write a review for this store in her name. She states that she was treated with dishonesty at Eye and Health Optometrist, New York, NY. Ms. Birnbaum states that she initially bought a pair of glasses from this store for a total of $243.20 on February 8th, 2016. Ten days later while doing a crossword puzzle, her glasses just slipped off her face and she thought a pin might have fallen out. When she went back to the store on February 23rd, 2016 they told her that it was broken. At the store she requested to speak with the manager of Eye and Health, Nancy Ayala, but David, a worker at the store told her that the manager is not in that day. David also told her that, “It’s [the frame] not the best quality, which is why it broke.” Ms.Birbaum had her old glasses with her to indicate that she has had that pair for several years and it did not break, while the new frames broke in only 10 days. She was told to leave those behind and come back in a week. When she came back she was given her new lenses in her old frame and the broken frame separately. She then asked for a refund for the defective frames and was told the manager would have to approve and to come back the next day. The same day Ms. Birnbaum came to Co-Op Village NORC in order to seek assistance with contacting the manager of Eye and Health. A social worker, Barbara, called the manager twice on behalf of Ms. Birnbaum and left a message each time, but her calls were never returned. Nancy Ayala did call Ms. Birnbaum at home to whom Ms. Birnbaum explained her situation. Ms. Birnbaum asked Ms. Ayala for a refund for the defective frames, but Ms. Ayala said that they do not give refunds, but she could give her in-store credit. When asked why her store would sell poor quality frames, Ms. Ayala blatantly replied that, “You get what you payed for.” This response shocked Ms. Birnbaum and she feels that this was a stupid, incriminating, and disrespectful comment to make to a dissatisfied costumer. This entire altercation left Ms. Birnbaum feeling neglected and offended by the quality of service she received from the store manager herself and her staff. Ms. Birnbaum went back to the store the next day for the $100.00 worth of useless credit. She left the store that day feeling cheated, frustrated and her request disregarded. Ms. Birnbaum feels that the manager was rude and dismissive of her because of her age and quite nature which is also why she was unable to properly defend her case and argue for her rights. Although she received a $100.00 in-store credit, why would anyone ever purchase glasses at that store with those comments and attitude.

Eye & Heath is a cool trendy optometrists located in the East Village. The team are welcoming and polite. Dr Nicole Sangani was brilliant and extremely helpful with regards to her advice and care for my eyes. Would highly recommend.
