I have been taking my shoes here for over 10 years. If you invest in good shoes you should have the best shoemaker to care for them. Thank you

Great experience at Essex Shoe Services. Phone inquiry was answered quickly, accurately, and with utmost politeness. Repair to my boots was successful, timely, and very reasonably priced. Store location is very convenient. I would recommend this place without reservation.

Run far far away. I'm writing this review COMPLETELY flabbergasted- in awe a business owner could act this way

I brought my girlfriend's Christian Louboutins in there to repair the bottom cause they were scratched a little bit. After he told me does this type of work, I take the shoes out and I show it to him. He said there were a few different ways to repair - add a rubber sole or a specific kind of red paint. (Everything was going great so far, by the way). Then I asked if there was a different color rubber sole, cause the sole he had was a slightly lighter red than the rest of the shoe.

At that moment, EVERYTHING CHANGED! He calmly said "I don't do this type of work" and just walked away from me to the back. I didn't move because I surely thought he couldn't be done. He didn't even say goodbye or explain anything. I yelled to the back..."Uh, are we done here". "WE'RE DONE" he replied. I couldn't hold my tongue so I said "That is the worst display of customer service I have ever seen. I'm here ready to give you business, and I have even have another pair of my shoes with me to ask you about, and you just walk away without even saying good bye, or explaining why you're walking away."

"I KNOW YOUR KIND" he says. Haha. I was like "what? What does that mean? What is my kind? I don't even know my kind? Is my kind the kind that wants their shoes fixed?!" He kept on screaming at me. This guy lost it. It was so weird. So bizarre. I was shocked. Nothing went wrong besides this guy turning PSYCHO! I've read other reviews where he just walked away from the customer to the back. It doesn't make sense.

This guy is a terrible person. Definitely find another shoe repair guy!

This place is great. I've been bringing my shoes there for years and I have never had any issues with the service provided. This guy is extremely accommodating and very honest when it comes to any repairs.

I've been taking shoes here for over fifteen years - by far he's the best shoe-man ever. Not only do I take my personal shoes to him, I also take shoes there from my place of employment. I work at a major regional theater located locally and over the past fifteen or more years I have taken hundreds of shoes and other leather goods to Sam for work. You know I wouldn't be doing that if his work was bad! I don't understand the negative reviews I've read on here; he's a great cobbler and I've worked with a lot. I do know that I've been in his shop and other people have come in and I'm always shocked by how rude some people are. Everyone wants their work done right that minute, as if he didn't have other customers' shoes waiting to be done. And a lot of people seem to think he shouldn't charge more than a few bucks to repair their shoes, as if he doesn't have to pay for supplies and overhead and maybe make a living, too! Some people refuse to accept that a pair of shoes is dead and can't be resurrected. Others seem to think it is appropriate to treat him as if he were their personal servant. Probably those are the people who have bad things to say about him! I find his prices fair, his attitude very helpful and his work stellar. He even gets excited about special challenges I've brought to him and helps me figure out ways to solve some of the special problems we run into with theatrical needs.

Bottom line - I love his work, I think he's a great guy and I'll keep going back as long as he's in business.
