Essex Gastro Associates: Guerrero Firpo E MD

I had a colonoscopy done by Dr. Guerrero on May 17, 2016. The staff was amazing, accommodating and very friendly. It was comforting to have a doctor with great bedside manners, something hard to find in doctors these days. He explained my results in a way that I was able to understand and answered all my questions. I felt at ease! I would definitely recommend him to family and friends. He is indeed one of Newark's best!

To start off I would like to say I don't normally write reviews on doctors, but I will open an exemption this time around and explain as to why I am doing so.
I have been seeing this doctor for 13 years, with mild crohn's disease. This mild form of crohn's has been with me since the age of 16 and has been monitored by Dr. Guerrero with a colonoscopy every six months. So far so good right?
Now, two months after my last colonoscopy I developed an excruciating pain in my lower abdomen and schedueld an appointment. At this point i had lost about 20lbs, his action was to do a colonoscopy for the upcoming week. Well, two days later the pain was to severe I couldn't stand up straight, needless to say I went to the Hospital.
Now the (not so) fun part. After doing a series of tests, the doctors discoverd I had a fistula going from my small intestine to my large intestine and my crohn's were extreamly active. At this point I was severly dehydrated and malnourished, my body was at a braking point thanks to Dr. Guerrero.
Before the Hospital's Gastro had my crohn's under control I had lost about 30lbs, I've been thin all my life so all that weight was basically muscle and bone mass.
This doctor is of very low quality and experience compared to the one that most likely saved my life, his interest are obvious to me now: To do colonoscopy procedures for no apparent reason and benefit for the patient as I probably lost years in my longevity for sure.
