Today I was walking by and saw some Bernie Dexter on mannequins outside so I decided to pop in and take a look. I spend an embarrassingly large amount of money on Trashy Diva, Stop Staring, Bernie Dexter, Freddie’s of Pinewood, and PUG so I was very excited to find the store. It also happened to be payday and that money was burning a hole in my pocket. Unfortunately, the woman working, the owner, was extremely rude, following me around, repeatedly asking me what I was looking for, etc. She even asked me not to remove the hangers from the rack to look at the dresses, which I wasn’t even doing, and found absolutely absurd. I was being as polite as humanly possible (my southern mother would’ve been proud), I expressed that I was very familiar with the brands, and I was being quite tidy, but she still scolded me for not making sure all the hangers were exactly as I found them. I was also scolded for looking at the mens clothes for some reason. At one point, I was looking at some pants (with the hanger still on the rack) and she came up and practically ripped the hanger from my hands and repositioned it on the rack. I don’t think I’ve ever been treated worse by a sales person, or an owner for that matter. She wouldn’t let me look and practically chased me out of the store, I guess because I had just gotten off work and wasn’t wearing lipstick and my Sunday best. I was there to shop, but it was impromptu so I wasn’t in for anything in particular, and that wasn’t good enough. Completely aside from the service, the selection was very poor; there were very few sizes (one, usually) of most of the items I looked at, particularly the Trashy Diva and Freddies, and somewhat the Bernie Dexter, but there were few of the prints present. She did say there was more Freddies in the back, but she wouldn’t put it out until September. The best stocked brand by far was Stop Staring. I really wanted to love this store. It would have been so nice to not have to wait for my Freddies to ship from the UK. My recommendation is that if you aren’t a fully-fledged member of NYC’s rockabilly scene like the person who left the positive review or aren’t currently pinup-ed from head to toe, you’re better off buying online.
TLDR: Owner was extraordinarily rude despite the fact that I really wanted to buy stuff, and the selection was extremely scant for everything but the Stop Staring.
