Ok .... so the stylist (Miranda? honestly no idea) was 10 minutes late which was frustrating because I was meeting my husband nearby for dinner. She asked me what I wanted and set out to wash. I reminded her I ordered the 10 minute scalp massage and she acted like I had just made it up. She had to leave for 5 minutes to "check" then came back and said she wasn't sure she could do it. "I did order it" I said "yeah but sometimes if we over book then we don't do those things" was her reply. She asked me if I wanted a conditioning treatment or scalp massage and I said just massage. I'll stop to mention that this was the first hair wash I've had at a salon (ever) where my hair wasn't washed twice -- it's waist length and hadn't been washed in a week --- it was very coated with product from a holiday party the night before. She then conditioned it and gave me a weak, weird and completely useless scalp massage for maybe 5 minutes (it was so bad I didn't argue). Then she started to comb the conditioner out through my hair so hard (that I was coming out of the chair and wincing). Instead of picking up on the unsubtle body language, she instructed ME to tell HER if it hurt.
Over to the chair, I picked the Southern Belle (VOLUME) and cosmo combo. She brushed my hair and I swear to god I was trying to get a picture of it, with a comb that was half eaten, I guess by a dog or maybe thrown into a garbage disposal. It was one of those old school brushes with the little beads at the end of the sticky bits and half of it was torn in half. It was too late by the time I noticed and I thought, great, so happy I've just broken off lots of ends on my hair I spend lots of time and money on because this girl has a half eaten brush.
She brushed my hair in a style that your Mom would when you were 5 and pissing her off when she was running late. It was so rough. I think she must be right out of academy and has only practiced on doll heads maybe? Then she was holding the hair dryer so close and slow to my scalp that it started burning.
In the very end $65 and 100 minutes later, I had completely flat hair with little bits of curl in the front of the face. I could have done that by just brushing my hair and twirling it with a little product. What was she doing all that time? Honesty, no talent. No personality. Terrible technique and customer service.
This was my first time at DryBar and I had another appointment booked for Soho next week. I think I'm going to cancel and go back to my old salon.
