i know this is a little long, but i think this is very important that people read about the experience i had with dr. koenigsberg. For several years i have been going back and forth to the emergency room because of chest pains and difficulty breathing, all they ever did was give me a breathing treatment, tell me its just asthma and send me on my way. My mothers doctor told her the same thing about her and sure enough my mother passed away a few years ago of emphysema and heart failure. Although i dont trust doctors i decided to make an appointment with Dr. koenigsberg and i believe that appointment is the only reason that i am alive today.
As i was sitting in the waiting room Dr. koenigsberg came in and asked if i was a new patient, i quickly responded yes and thats when he immediately brought me into the back and with even using a stethoscope he asked me, "so how long have you had emphysema?". I almost fell off the table i couldnt believe he said that. Once he saw i looked shocked and realized no one has ever told this to me before he began to explain what copd and emphysema meant. He not only took his time to explain it to me he also gave me his personal cell phone number in case i had any other questions. He then tried to send me for a CAT SCAN just to confirm what he had thought and also to go see a cardiologist because both of my parents died of emphysema/heart failure. But of course my insurance denied the test because they didnt think the testing was necessary for a 34yr old. Dr. koenigsberg disputed and they finally agreed for the CAT SCAN but not the stress test or cardiologist. sure enough the test showed i have stage 1 emphysema and the breathing test showed my lung capacity was that of a 104yr old at that time!!. even with those results the insurance still refused the cardiologist. Well a few weeks later i was home with my then 15yr old and almost 2yr old sons when suddenly i felt pressure almost like a charlie horse in my chest and back, i looked over and both of my kids were screaming and my oldest called 911. i had suffered a stroke. My oldest son was suppose to be at a friends house that weekend but came home instead. If it wasnt for Dr. koenigsberg warning me to make sure i take it easy until he could battle the insurance for my test and if my oldest wasnt home i would have been dead on the floor for at least 3 days until either my son or childs father came home, which means my baby who was just turning 2 the following month would have been trapped in the house with his dead mother for days and who knows if he himself would have survived. Maybe if my parents had Dr. koenigsberg as their doctor they would still be alive today. For several years i couldnt even play with my kids outside because it was impossible to breath, while other moms were at their kids baseball games i was home struggling to breath. But things are so different now, although i still have to take it easy i am doing so many things with my kids now. Dr. koenigsberg has been treating me with the best medications that i need so i can have a good quality of life and never once has he ever cared if i didnt have the money he was always willing to work with me and every other patient as well. It seems like most doctors only care about money and they could care less weather or not someone lives or dies or weather they have a good quality of life or not. Dr.koenigsberg is the complete opposite, he doesnt care about the money and is willing to sit and explain everything to his patients he is also very thorough in making sure you are diagnosed properly and every and anything that can be done is done. Im grateful to not only have my life back but im grateful to have a doctor that genuinely cares about his patients.
