I am a L&D RN and just left a 2 min appointment as a new patient having a family history of Ovarian Cancer- and all that was done was a pap smear. No urine taken, no in depth patient interview, no height or weight, no temperature taken, no preliminary US or even a baseline CA 125. (Understandable on the CA 125 but even after I explained for my mother it has been an indicator, she still did not care) But I was given a Rx for Depo and no instructions for use until I asked. The Dr almost argued with me when I told her my previous FL gyno wanted to be very careful and did preliminary ultrasounds and wanted to do them every couple of years due to Ovarian cancer. My mother was late staged bc a doc didn't want to just take the precautions and send her for the testing- it's not like they have to physically do it. Preventative medicine, not wait till you start complaining and it's too late medicine. People aren't assembly lines- sit talk to your patient and get a full history and at least weight your patient, ask their height and do a urine sample.
