For my dog's Sweet 16, I wanted to get her a special cake. Over the weekend, I researched Brooklyn places that sold organic cakes & treats.
They only offer the birthday cakes in one flavor & one size. It's made with peanut butter & carrot- two of my dog's favorite foods. In fact, she has fresh carrots with her dry food almost daily. I figured this would be a no-brainer. The Classic 4" cake will set you back about $25; according to the shopkeeper, this will feed about ten dogs. The Designer cake that's 'pre-customized' with a design of either a squirrel, monkey, or princess motif, will be pricier, ~$32.
She huffed and puffed, blew out her candle, and made a fluffy wish(OK, maybe we blew it for her). I proceeded to slice up the cake into smaller pieces since she's an old grandma. The cake was moist and seemed fresh based on the texture. I plopped it down hoping that she'd feast like a beast.
And.. she hates the cake. She doesn't like the scent nor taste. After some time, I plopped a piece of the yogurt layer into her mouth and she spit it out. Typically, this would have done the trick as she loves the yogurt parts of all the cakes/cupcakes I have purchased at other places. It has been several days now and she still refuses to touch it.
NOT ONE BIT. Dropped the mic & walked away in true Diva fashion.
Though most dogs may devour these cakes, yours could possibly be the one that doesn't like it. And the price is not considered cheap. I applaud them on their efforts to provide organic products, but if my dog won't touch it, it doesn't mean anything to me.
