Back in the 60s and 70s, Rev.Mike Allen spoke out for civil rights and peace in Vietnam. About half the church members were African-Americans, so as a child, I learned that black people came from all over the world. There was dancing and poetry in the basement, free breakfasts, and great music and singing during services. I used to play in the rectory-- upstairs they had a trapeeze and mattresses covered the walls. The garden was full of hiding places for kids, and coffee hour went on all day.
