Before you read this review read the short disclaimer below:
So I've waited a very long time to write this review. As a former coach who did not leave on the best of terms, I wanted to make sure that enough time passed for me to be able to write an honest and unbiased review. If I was writing this in the beginning of the year, my rating would have been much lower and words much harsher. So here it is.
Let's start with the best thing this box has going for it and work down.
COMMUNITY: CFW possesses a remarkable in box community, so if this is a top priority for you, CFW is the box for you. However, be warned that the community aspect of this box doesn't leave the box. What I mean is that CFW isn't known to partake or contribute to the CF community as a whole.
COACHING: CFWs coaches are great individuals who truly care about the members (there are one or two standouts). For the most part they posses decent knowledge and an ability to coach. However, CFW isn't known for producing technical movers. Now this isn't the fault of all the coaches, but enough of them to not be able to produce good movers. I, and several former members (6 I can think of at the moment) have had to unlearn many of the bad habits we were taught regarding the Olympic lifts.
PROGRAMING: This is an area where there has been tremendous improvement. Things are better but still slightly behind what CF has evolved into. CF has evolved as the community obtains more knowledge and experience. CFW is doing an OK job but is slightly behind the times. Just check out their wods and compare it to what other boxes in the area are doing and make the call yourself.
FACILITY: There's no sugar coating this one. The facility is probably the most unkept and poorly equipped in the area. I know they are moving soon into another facility, but until then I will say that this is a major issue, especially when comparing them to surrounding boxes which are for the most part stacked and clean.
CLASSES: CFW offers a very limited number of classes a day and no open gym. So make sure you check their schedule to see if this place works for you. Also, they offer an endurance and oly lifting courses which run for several months at a time. However, these are "premium" classes that cost money (on top of your membership fee). I never understood this as most other boxes provide these programs to their members at no additional cost.
In the end I recommend you drop in at several of the few surrounding boxes so you can make an informed decision about which box is best for your needs.
