There is no way to describe Crossfit SOAR without using the word family. I was very intimidated by Crossfit before I started and when I walked into SOAR I immediately felt at home. The coaches have a definite passion for what they do and that is reflected in each of their styles of coaching. Though they are all different in their styles, each coach is extremely knowledgeable and they all pay very close attention to form and technique. The people of SOAR are not just people who workout together because Crossfit SOAR is not just a gym, it is a community of like-minded individuals who help each other reach their goals/potential both inside and out of the "box". While there are some VERY fit people of the community, you do not have to be fit to start here, we all started somewhere, and we are all still striving to be better.

I am always traveling for work so I have had the opportunity to visit many different CrossFit Boxes. CrossFit SOAR ranks up there as definitely one of the best I have been to. The coaches were great, very knowledgeable and friendly, and the whole SOAR community welcomed me as their own. I was only there for a few weeks but they treated me like family. The whole gym values the idea of CrossFit and the community that comes with it. I hope to make it back there again and recommend it highly to anyone who is interested in trying CrossFit, or anyone who may be passing through town looking for a drop in.

It's important for my review to include a little about me so you can understand why Crossfit:SOAR deserves and has earned a 5 star rating.

In life, I have lost a total of 50 pounds and have worked incredibly hard to keep it off - mainly by continuing to eat well and by committing myself to long distance races. I love running, I will always love running, and I am not stopping. My endurance is great.

However, i wanted to improve my physical appearance, gain strength, and become an overall better athlete. I had never lifted in my life...I mean, I was a fat kid who was intimidated by meatheads in a gym...so, the idea of lifting anything was pretty foreign to me.

In those attempts, I had heard of Crossfit. I was wary about joining SOAR because a previous Crossfit "box" I had joined in Monmouth County focused solely on forging elite athletes; making me feel less important than those who could lift heavy and finish a work out in record time, every time. Coaches missed appointments, ignored me, and offered very little tips on how to be successful. I left there dissatisfied with not only the staff and their horrible business practices, but also with my Crossfit experience as a whole. It was another thing that I was made to feel wasn't good at.

SOAR completely turned my opinion around. First, you are introduced to the basics through "Crossfit Lite"...which let me feel confident about the basics. It also allowed me to create relationships with the others in the Lite class...so I already had a built in group of Crossfit buddies when I moved up to the normal class schedule.

The coaches at SOAR are also committed to making sure you do everything at your pace. Before I even start a "WOD" (Workout of the Day), they take the time to make sure I am lifting the appropriate amount of weight and completing any movements properly. They encourage me to challenge myself, but are also respectful of my limits.

As someone who list his weight through the assistance of a community, community was so important to me in a Crossfit gym. My first time there, all members of the staff made it a point to introduce themselves to me and get to know why I was interested in Crossfit. That friendliness carries over into the interactions I have with other members of SOAR. Because the coaches make it so that everyone feels welcome, the members follow suit. A few times since I've started, I have been the last to finish a work out out...but each and everyone person there hangs around to cheer me on and offer support...and congratulate me when I am done. It's intimidating to step into a box and see all these people doing things you've never done before, but everyone at SOAR works hard to take the intimidation factor away.

Led by the Head Coach, Dave W., the staff is incredibly knowledgeable. They ultimately are there to teach and provide knowledge, and they do.

SOAR is also incredibly affordable compared to other Crossfit gyms/boxes throughout the state.

To sum it up, I sit in traffic twice a week after work to go to SOAR...and am up before the sun on a Saturday to make it the first Saturday class. Also, i am starting to see results. Clothes are fitting better, I am getting stronger, and feel much better about the steps I am taking to improve my fitness.

I would recommend Crossfit:SOAR to anyone who asks.
