I have an apt on Silver Beach in the Bronx, and my heater broke this winter. The wind comes right off the water, which makes it impossible to keep warm. My old HVAC company charged me ridiculous fairs to come and take a look at my boiler system. I couldn't keep up with it, until I found Cottam Heating & Air Conditioning. They come and take care of any problems, and with the maintenance plan I can afford it! I would highly recommend this company!

I have been an extremely satisfied customer of Cottam Heating and Air Conditioning for several years now. Back in 2005 we renovated our home in the Bronx, including a new central air system, installed by the Contractor. The following season we had a pretty bad water leak coming from our ceiling.. We called Cottam and after a system evaluation we were informed of several problems. The first being that the installing contractor, never installed a water safety switch (to prevent such water leaks from occurring). Secondly we were informed of Cottam's preventative maintenance contract, we have now been maintenance customers of Cottam's for 8 years now and have had zero problems with our Heating or AC systems in as long.

Extremely satisfied customer, would absolutely recommend to friends and family!

Cottam Heating & Air Conditioning's service department is truly amazing. The service coordinator is very attentive to her customer's needs and concerns. She made sure that we were very informed and that the technician got to us on time. The technician that she sent to us was very respectful and helpful. We were glad to pay the bill. Our air conditioning is running great now. I would like to thank Cottam Heating & Air Conditioning for doing such a fabulous job. We will definitely be using Cottam Heating & Air Conditioning for a long time to come.

Shortly after we moved into our home in Westchester in 1993, we realized that we had a serious problem with our air conditioning. The problem was we purchased our home in February and had it inspected in the dead of winter and the guy who did the work failed to see that neither the heating or AC worked properly. When we moved into our home on a very hot day in June, it became painfully clear that we were not able to cool the inside of our home, even though our house had been totally gutted and rebuilt with new duct work installed throughout the house. The first company we we called told us that we had to rip everything out and spend between $25,000 to $50,000 to fix the problem. While we were sweating, we were also broke, having just sold our apartment in NYC and struggled to buy our new home so we decided to get a second opinion. Fortunately one of our old neighbors from NYC had recently moved to Larchmont and they recommended that we call Gary Cottam, who had just done a great job helping them to install AC in their home. They loved this guy and urged us to call him. Gary came to our home and after doing a thorough exploration of our attic and crawl spaces, urged us to sue the inspector! Gary felt that the entire system had been installed in a substandard manner and that we shouldn't have to pay to fix the problem. We were impressed by Gary Cottam's ethics but asked him how much it would cost to just get some air to come through the ducts and get us through the summer. Gary came back with an estimate of about $1200, but explained that this was really more of a band-aid job and that to do it right we would need to rip out walls in our kitchen and probably put all new equipment to really make the system work properly. We were impressed that for just over $1,000 Gary was able to get the air conditioning to work and felt that we were in good hands. When the winter came and our home was very cold, Gary felt he needed to come to visit us on one of the coldest nights in February, so he could take the temperature of the bedrooms that were the coldest and see where the freezing air was coming into our home. He explained to us that before we could spend any money on extra heating, we needed to add insulation to our walls and make sure that we had proper saddles on all of our doors. Gary explained that unless we did our homework, he would be wasting our money to think that adding radiant or wall heaters would do anything unless we first made sure that our walls were insulated and no cold air was coming into our house through poorly insulated doors and windows. Naturally Cottam didn't do that kind of work so we had to hire specialists but more importantly, he was right. Once we had insulated the house, the heating was sufficient and we ended up saving money! And while Gary didn't get to add wall units that wouldn't have fixed that problem, it was the beginning of a relationship that my wife and I still value almost twenty years after we moved into our home. Over the years, Cottam Heating & Air has rebuilt our AC and heating systems but we did it gradually and in a smart way as we rebuilt and expanded our kitchen and did other work in our home. We have recommended Cottam to all of our friends when they have been seeking someone to give them guidance on their heating and AC systems and every one of them have been grateful for his wisdom and guidance. They have remained good friends of ours and grateful customers of Cottam Heating and Air.

- Terrible #80218
I would give zero or negative stars if I could. Employee repairman was verbally abusive, had a terrible attitude, and did not finish servicing any the HVAC machines on site before deciding to leave (guess what, Friday afternoon for me too!). He tried to tell me I was breaking the law by insisting he stay to finish the job.
