Bedford stuyvesant head start is not the place that you want to bring your children to. Although they claim their mission is " To Build strong families for a better Bedford Stuyvesant Community".They do very little in the community beside, the one day that they recruit children. Children are not learning parallel to what they state requires so when they advance to a grade where they are tested a lot of students do not measure up; Some even mistreat and neglect children.
They are not transparent with their government funding. Since the head start is government funded (non for profit) how their funds are distributed should be public knowledge. Any parent who cares about their children education should want to know how the funds the government provided for their children are spent. I urge any parent who want to place there child in a headstart, do your research these classroom that are being run by a lot of uncertified teachers. I urge you to ask the teachers running the classrooms to provide proof of their credentials so your know your child(ren) are in the hands of a professional.
Make sure your children are taken care of parents. This is an program is meant for parent to be involved with you child(rens) education. Do not take that for granted. Make sure the ones appointed to take care of and teach your child when you are not around do so.
Inconclusion, all teacher and assistant teachers that are involved in the program are not to deprive you child(ren) but most of them do not know how to teach them the skills that are needed to have a good head start in life. Your child(ren) future depends on it,literally. Also, do not let them fully evaluate you child(ren) for special needs, If your child has a specific problem, see someone outside of the program to make sure they are treated. When you child(ren) are fully evaluated more than likely almost every time they will find a way to label you child as special needs. This is where a lot of government funding comes from. Be smart take care of your child(ren) and make sure they are in the best hands when they are not with you.
