It's your basic, no frills gym. If you want an affordable gym that you can lift weights and do cardio at without spending a ridiculous amount for the membership, this is the place for you. If you are looking for classes, sauna, etc. Not the place for you. Friendly staff and really good protein shakes. It does get crowded at peak hours.

I'm a pretty casual gym goer and this does the trick for me. It is small and can get crowded in peak times because there is not a ton of room and not a lot of equipment. It was really cheap for me to sign up because I got the cost spread out over time. If you're looking for a cheap gym and will live in the area for a while it is probably worth it.

SERIOUS LIFTERS:
Not a serious gym. Had no choice but to go here for a few months when I moved to Jersey City and didn't yet have a car. The only option I had was to take the PATH train or bike ride within reasonable distance to downtown JC (from where I lived at the time, in Journal Square). In downtown JC, all the gyms -including this one- pretty much just cater just to the yuppy-cardio crowd. The free-weight area is very small. The equipment is very limited, the DBs don't go very high, and the selection of hammer-strength machines is even more pathetic. I was told one time I'm too loud, so it's a bit Planet Fitness-like. If you live in JC and need a serious gym, consider driving to the Retro or Gold's on the west side or to LA Fitness in Secaucus, or take the PATH train to the Crunch in Hoboken if you can afford a bit more. Bayonne also has some decent gyms, like Forum (serious mom-and-pop gym, very good for serious lifters) and the chains (a Retro, and an NYSC).

Club Metro in Jersey City sufficiently offer services to meet and exceed my fitness requirements. The staff is friendly, courteous, professional and knowledgeable about the machines and programs, and can guide you through lifestyle choices needed to create a program that works best for you.

Great equipment and machines. Not very crowded, welcoming and nice staff. Best location and reasonable prices compare to other gyms around this area. Owner Nick is very nice and takes personal interest in upkeep of this facility.
