Scammed by City Window Fashions in Eight Easy Steps
1. Phone rep tells us to go buy our own curtain rods or pay her $150 per hour to shop for some because "we don't sell them". Fine, we bought our own.
2. Phone rep indicates that the installation can be done by two guys in 30 min. Seemed light, but we booked the installation with two guys.
3. Installer shows up alone, without tools, and indicates that it is really a four hour job for two guys. Because his partner isn't with him, he can't complete the job today and demands a $75 "consult fee". We decline.
4. Weeks later, installer shows up with his helper and installs the curtain rods. He takes a 30 min smoke break for which we are charged the hourly rate of $150. The bedroom rod is installed way too low and we have 18 inches of curtain dragging on the floor. He announces that he will fix it if we continue to pay for another hour. We decline. He recommends a friend who can shorten the curtains for "about $100".
5. The next day we discover that another curtain rod was improperly installed. The curtains will not close and pieces are falling on the floor.
6. Phone rep indicates that the installation will only be repaired if we pay them $150 per hour to come out and look at it. We decline and request to speak with the owner to work something out. Phone rep indicates over a period of days that owner is unavailable.
7. We cancel our check and notify vendor.
8. Weeks later we receive threatening emails from phone rep indicating that we are "thieves" and that we will be reported to the credit agencies. The letter indicates a reply to email address that directs to a known malicious site (per Microsoft and Google).
