After visiting the AMNH (whose food options are not the greatest), we went across the street to the NY Historical Society restaurant Caffe Storico on the recommendation of a friend. It was 11:30am and they were open (some of the restaurants in the area open at noon). The food is casual Italian. The atmosphere was charming (very white and clean) and the service excellent. My wife and I ordered the Portabello Panini and the Chopped Salad, and then shared. The salad was very good but not exactly what you would expect of a chopped salad. It was more like a traditional salad with baby greens, apple, feta, a healthy helping of avocado and candied pancetta. The portabello panini was outstanding. I am not sure what they marinate their portabello in, but it was extremely flavorful. The sandwich was cooked just right. The sandwich came with a plain side salad. Our friend ordered the Arugula Salad and the Ricotta/Chick Pea Crostini. I tried some of the crostini and was unimpressed – the toast was a bit too burnt. Overall, it was an excellent choice and will return in the future.

My family and I brought our 95 year old mother to Caffee Storico for a birthday brunch, and despite prior phone calls to arrange brunch for an elderly, deaf, disabled person, we were treated extremely badly. Although promised a quiet corner, we were put into a noisy central table, where were sat for 1/2 hour without any attention whatsoever from waitstaff. When after a 1/2 hour, I informed the maitre 'd that we were leaving, we got a terse insincere "sorry". I will never return and cannot recommend this restaurant to anyone.

An airy, bright space which is located in the New York Historical Society's Museum and Library, and across the street from the American Museum of Natural History. Highly recommend the polenta & eggs for brunch!

The food is delicious especially the organic roasted chicken and the asparagus it's to die for ...cool atmosphere always chill...just a hip skip and a jump away from home and it's right down the block from another Italian restaurant which can't hold a candle to it! Plus the night bartender is super chill and professional...I'd come back anytime.

Went back recently and it was soooooo much better. Great veggie dishes and very good dessert. Visit the museum and eat here after. The room smells a little like a restaurant kitchen, which isn't good, but the light and windows make it a great space.
