I came here this morning for a Watercolor Painting of Animals workshop. There were only three other students besides myself, all of whom had an intermediate knowledge of watercolor painting, and we passed a pleasant and relaxing few hours together. The instructor, Allison, was very friendly and helpful. Allison took a hands-off approach, offering her input when we asked for it or looked like we needed help, but otherwise working on her own painting and chatting casually with us rather than hovering over our shoulders. The space was large and well-lit, and several other people were quietly working on their own art in the studio space around us. The workshops are a little too pricy for me to come here regularly, but if you live nearby, Brooklyn Art Space seems like a great place to do art, either independently or as part of a workshop or figure drawing session.
