I have long been a user of BP gas because of its high quality and price. However the actions of employees at this franchise make me want to take my business elsewhere. Today, my younger sibling was pumping my gas, when he realized he had been short changed at the pump by a mere $5. He immediately told the younger clerk, who dismissed his complaint. The clerk and my brother argued about the matter, when another employee proceeded to come from behind the counter screaming profanities as he shoved my 18 year old brother .I ran over to diffuse the commotion. When I and asked why the older attendant why he was being so hostile towards my brother, he replied “because your brother yelled at the cashier”. My brother did not resort to physical violence, although the clerk did. Since when is physical violence ever the solution? Perhaps in the personal life of the attendant shoving is a reasonable solution to a problem, but I find that behavior totally unacceptable. The gas attendant was at least two times the age of my younger brother yet he was the one with the least amount of restraint. In my capacity as a health care worker, I work with people. I understand that there is a certain decorum that should be used when dealing with customer service related issues, especially when emotions run high. Had the clerk treated me as if my business mattered to him, and attempted to settle the issue, I would not be writing this letter right now. They could have simply said, “I am sorry, why don’t you call back at the end of the night after we count our till. If there is extra money, then I will gladly give you a $5 gas credit. “However such a sensible settlement was beyond the scope of the abilities of the gas attendants. The $5 was not the issue. The lack of respect was. I hope the tone of this letter does not seem too harsh. BP has a wonderful product, but if the caliber of their employees does not live up to the quality of what they offer, then their product is seriously devalued by that association.
