Five stars for preservation. Yes the southern half of Central Park is to be appreciated, both for the work of it's architects, and just to enjoy nature, the trees, grass, flowers and animals. Also to appreciate that this rectangle was excised from the original grid plan and saved as open space. The northern half, and The Ramble seem more natural, with windier paths, hillier hills and and a more freestyle design. In the Northeast portion, on top of a hill is one of the few old forts remaining in New York City. Its a small, square fort, and locked so you (and those who would have destroyed it) can't get in. But it's there. There's nothing spectacular about it, and you might not spend much time there, but it survived the slash and burn preservation of New York for over 200 years.

An interesting little place especially if you're into the history of old NYC,
It can be a little hard to find if you don't have a detailed map of Central Park and it's a bit of an uphill climb and I wouldn't recommend going there at sunset or at night by yourself, from what I've heard it can be a little rough around the edges then; like several places in Central Park can be
when it starts getting dark.
But during daylight hours it's safe enough and you can get a memorable view from the hill top of
Block House No 1.
