Interesting space. Really does feel like you've been transported to another time and place. The bouncer at the door is totally unnecessary but once inside its pretty relaxed. Cocktails were fantastic, but cocktail book is a bit contrived. They have the best shoestring fries ! We will be back.

The Black Trail great place. The experience was great from the start. Right down to the door man telling us there was a wait. We were paged in half the quoted wait time. The host was so lovely when welcoming and seating us. The service was great. The cocktails we had were delicious and well balanced. We tried the fries(yuca) and it was the best preparation I've had yet. The shrimp were also delicious. This place is worth checking out even if there is a wait. We came from Brooklyn and we will definitely be back.

Brilliant take on rum based cocktails, among others. Exceptional service, as is seen in their sister/brother lounge, The Dead Rabbit, which is in the neighborhood! The opening tonight, 15-Aug, 2016, was seamless!
Havana, Cuba, is the spotlight in this venue and rum is the major player. The food is exquisite (try the ribs and lollipop chicken); the tres leches is legit.
The Head Bartender, Jesse VIDA, has done a tremendous job in this venue, and the main hostess, Laura, is an amazing facilitator! They make everyone feel welcome and really care about their craft.
Black Tail is already has all the markers of a superb cocktail lounge--and it has only just started. I highly recommend this place and it is a must visit in NYC!

I was lucky to be invited two times to the soft opening. It's a huge space, like its sibling the dead rabbit -- and with the same minute attention to detail and perfectionism that goes beyond what you would imagine I'm always surprised at how that place balances the art and science of running a bar committed to the highest ideals while being completely approachable to someone who just wants a beer).
Both Dead Rabbit and Black Tail are bar/restaurant equivalent of Hamilton the musical.
And this is all based on the limited menu Black Tail offered before the official open. Can't wait for the full treatment!
