Bergen County Board of Social Services

I was calling for 3 hours and they never answer, this office is supposed to help low income families but they do not do that instead they discriminate them and leave them on a side, bergen county is the worst. They are always rude and non-responsible, perhaps are people asking money from their paychecks? Nope, it is the states money. They don't pay attention, they look just like statues because they don't do anything. I was in the office for 2 hours for nothing they did not help me, I was wasting time.

So sad ...people dont need help thy get it so easy .. But that people that need it. Thy make it so hard ... Even when thy had paid their taxes and just ask just medicaid.. Its crazy..by the way thy put kids are not urs under your name. Then you gtt go fix their problem.

They were always a pain, but after these changes they are UNBEARABLE AND UNBELIEVABLE. They send you paperwork with a mil long list to send back literally in a couple of days, and don't return calls. Trying to get through to someone is also the atrocious now. Each time I have called lately, I am always between the 25-35 que. By the time I get closer to speaking to someone, the call just literally goes BLANK. You literally hear NOTHING. They also send you paperwork of things you have no recollection of. I don't know what has happened to this agency, but I hope they fix these changes. #FixItJesus

If you miss a phone call, don't expect to speak with anyone. Expect to sit on the phone for a hour, to speak to someone that will say "hold on" and send you to a voicemail. This is the only social services I've ever gone to that doesn't deal with anything the same day. If you go here you are going to be waiting for hours due to the lack of staff, you will be treated poorly when finally being spoken to, you will be sent home with an appointment to get dealt with on a different day, only to have to send them a ton of copies of proof you are telling the truth about your money and living situation, then you are going to have to wait even longer for a letter telling you yes or no. So basically don't expect to get any services at all until 30 days later. I'm pregnant applied for snap, they told me in a letter my appointment was anywhere from 8am-4pm.... That's a 8hr difference... I missed their phone call by not even a minute called them straight back. Typically at other places they will put you on the phone with someone that will do the appointment with you or at least tell you to come in that day in response to you waiting so long on the phone. These guys don't really care to finish what they start. I'm really disgusted by this place, there is no parking, if you are a pregnant woman or elderly person bring your own seat with you because you won't get one there, this building needs to be made bigger and more employees need to be hired in order for this place to even become somewhat decent. Or they need to send people to a different social services to be treated better than they'll be treated here.

Anyone who gives this place more than 1 star either works there or is related to someone who works there. This place treats people like like they are common criminals who are just out to beat the system when in actuality no one who is in need should have to deal with this hole. It is unreal that there are people who are employed there and can get away with this. There are people who have legitimate needs and who want to be actively working. Our taxes go into a system like this because we may have a need. The way the social workers treat you here is if they are giving you money out of their own pockets. We are all human and should be shown a proper level of respect, we do not WANT to be there but there are times when we have no other choices.
