This bridge is not an pedestrian allowed bridge and if you risk taking a bicycle on this bridge, you will have to share the narrow road deck with speeding cars. The design is beautiful and the most unique shaped of all the NYC bridges. Rust, sadly, is everywhere and the structure looks unsafe, the maintenance needs including the obvious repairs needed apparently go largely unnoticed despite the day to day tolls we pay to use it. One final note, originally the bridge was lit by a double row of beautiful metal halide (bluish white) lamps. Some time after 9-11-01 the bulbs colors were altered to light as red, white, blue as a memorial I believe. More than a decade has past, I miss the original lamp colors. They lit the road deck better and were much brighter in the evening. I recommend visiting the bridge at least once and decide for yourself. I still love the style and design.

Very slow only 25mph limit and to get there from the I-78 you need to get off and travel through side streets to get to it.

This is the forgotten bridge. Compared to the other SI bridge, this bridge hardly has traffic on it. You could grab this bridge from the NJ Turnpike Extension 14A and take 440 all the way down. This is a good bridge, if you need to get to Bayonne for the Liberty Science Center or Pole Position Raceway.

It's the only bridge on staten island one can walk across to newjersey.
