Avalon West Chelsea

The construction noises in the morning and honking from the highway are so loud. I like to sleep in so if you're not a morning person, this is not the place for you. The doors open and close so loud if you don't hold them. I can easily hear my neighbors when they go in and out of their apartments. There were a few times I heard my next door neighbor singing and playing their guitar from inside my apartment.

For a studio, the rent is already high and now they have raised it $1000. Definitely not worth it considering the apartment unit has cheap cabinets for the kitchen and bathroom. the walls are pretty thin between apartments. They have this cool fob that acts as a key to the apartment but thats not worth the rent.

Location is nice but its a block away from the projects. I have had several interactions with homeless people that hang around there. One even spit in my friends face while we were walking.... didn't even interact with the man. Its a bit sketchy if you're walking home at night.

Overall, the doormen are very nice, the maintenance team is also very sweet when they come by the apartment. I don't have any issues with my apartment but its definitely not worth the value they give it.

Good

This is a good building with great views in a rapidly changing (for the good) neighborhood.

Only one con: the air conditioning /heating system is preety loud. Also, the neighborhood is loud due to construction. If you don't mind this, you'll like the building.

If you have kids, consider getting an apartment on the higher floors away from street noises. The street noises are loud enough to wake up your kids.

All in all, good building, great views and light.

When Avalon West Chelsea was first completed it was a good value in a good location (adjacent to art galleries, Highline, Hudson River Park). Now that the subway station at Hudson Yards has been completed, Avalon West Chelesa is a good value in a GREAT location. I live in a studio that is spacious relative to many studios I've seen. One caveat: Some of the rooms in 1-bedroom and 2-bedroom units are compact, but not cramped as long as you're not a pack-rat. Finally, the staff are friendly and responsive.

Awesome place to live. Location is amazing.
