I used to live here back in 2012. I left in 2013 and was sent a check for my deposit but was unable to cash it due to military requirements. I called the office about 4/5 months ago about receiving a new check and was told management had changed... the guy took my information and said he would call me back with an answer and never did. And now when u call the listed number you can not reach anyone. Terrible customer!!!

BEWARE...!!!
Just moved in like 4 days back to the community and the apartment is a mess along with the management. I already have around 6 open Service requests which have not come near to even fixtures. Some of the points to consider before you opt in.
Every person has their preferences and experience and the below might not be equipped for you but I will state anyway in case it is of any help.
- Check the apartment in which you are going to live
- Check for creaking sounds - I have sounds everywhere - bathtub, bedroom, kitchen
- Least insulation on windows and cold winds just pass through making you turn on the heater even when you don't need it.
- Just after 2 days of moving in my wife found 2 bugs on the wooden floor area - may be it is not cleaned properly.
- Service road near the apartment - the community will not let you check the apartment you are moving in so you will realize this later when you have disturbed sleep due to whoosing sounds of cars and trucks.
- Doors in bathroom and bedroom closes automatically if left open.
- on top of all this humiliating comments from service people in the community which I cannot state here.
Since it was only 4 days of moving in, I requested to break the 12 month lease and now management is asking breakage fee of 2 months rent + 60 day notice period and that comes around 4 months of rent in advance (no body in the wise world will take that as a simple decision).
I even tried to work out with community and they offered me another apartment with $100 more in rent that I am paying now and is beyond my budget.
I gave the management a solution to keep the security fee and the rent for the month I am leaving but they are so adamant on policies that they are not concerned about the personal life forget then humanity/pain the tenant is going through.
I have decided to move on for now as the decision with the management is still pending and have already started looking for an apartment where me and my wife can live in mental peace.
The only suggestion I would provide is INSPECT THE APARTMENT YOU ARE GOING TO LIVE IN thoroughly before you land up in any agreements.
Take care...!

Very good community. Returned my complete deposit after 3 years of living. Free Shuttle available to lyndhurst station and Rutherford station. You can take any train to one of the 2 stations form Hoboken or 34 Penn station to Secacus and change the train.
Safe community and good evening walk area around the community. Pet friendly!
Maintenance folks respond quickly!
Covered parking in Snow and god cleaning during snow! Shuttle makes the commute easy.
Stayed there during sandy at floor 1. Community was above water. Water stayed around 1 foot away from community.
Only negative
1. No Play area for kids.
2. Schools in area are rated 3-5

Stay away from Avalon. I heard that Avalon is nortorious for ripping off tennat. I didn't want to believe it. But now I know why. When I moved out the apartment, I expected to be paid my deposit of $500. However, I got a call from collection agency that I owe the apartment $200. Avalon charges all the cleaning fee and painting. Moreover, Avalon charged for the replacement of stove top. Stove top was used when I moved in and Avalon is saying that stove top worn out. Of course, stove top is worn out if I used it for two year and half years. This is ridiculous. I tried to contact the apartment, but they are saying that I have to speak to the collection agency. This is ridiculous!!!!. I am spreading out my story to everyone I know and all of social media. I hate this Avalon!!!!

READ BEFORE MOVING IN!!! The beginning seemed like a match made in heaven. You pay a $750 deposit and you move in. Sounds pretty sweet right???
Did they forget to mention the $75/person application fee for anyone over the age of 18, the $500 non-refundable ammenities fee, if you have a dog there is a $500 non-refundable pet fee, plus the $750 deposit that I previously mentioned.
The rent. If they give you a price for rent BE CAREFUL. It will steadily increase depending on a few things. A dog is an extra $50/month (on top of the non refundable deposit.) You pay a $20/month trash fee, $125/month for your car, among other things.
The customer service in the office... AWFUL! I've been living here for two months and made multiple complaints and they still have not set up my vistor access to let my visitors into the garage. I hope to walk all the way across the complex and down to the 1st floor to let them in. The management office has been unresponsive and catered zero percent to my needs.
WAIT THERE IS GOOD! The apartments are beautiful and the complex is quite. I've never heard my neighbors inside of my apartment and they all are very friendly. If you are coming from New York like most of the residents here it is a dramatic difference... There is so much space inside the apartment.
In the end I cannot wait to move out of Avalon Lyndhurst because they nickle and dime you at every turn. In hindsight, I would not have moved in.
