The Hellgate. The river. The trees. It's a good park and worthy of a stroll.

I was born in 1951 at 20-49 21 st street, three blocks away. When my father bought the house looking out the front window you could watch the boats go down the river, & could see Manhattan..
I remember enjoying the playground at the park & my first swimming was at Astoria pool....many happy memories !!

Amazing park over looking Manhattan. Views of Hellsgate bridge and tribute bridge are really quite something. The park also has a pool during the summer, a track, small skate park, tennis and basketball courts as well a bike path. One of the over looked gems of Astoria!

Another gem of NYC. Peaceful, absolutely stunning. Incredible views of the city and right across from Randall's Island. Bike paths, many grassy, shaded areas, sports courts, it's got it all. Right by the water.

One shouldn't base a review of a place off of nostalgia--but on the real quality of a place. I grew up near a park that wasn't this one and although I love visiting it to relive the old days, it's still a dumpy park. Now, of course, Astoria Park isn't dumpy. But there's room for improvement. Ignoring the roar of the bridge traffic (nothing a local alderman can do about that), the playground sprinkler needs a redo and the entire grounds and landscaping need serious attention. But the riverside location is very nice and the trees are plentiful and shady and yes, the pool and athletic areas are solid. And there's a lot of history here. All good positives. But a great city park needs to be more than rec facilities and jogging paths. It needs a real sense of escape and just a touch of wild nature. So, yeah, it's a GOOD park, but far from a GREAT park.
