The experience with adopting an animal from this care center was terrible because one of my friends adopted a 4 month old kitten and they said that he wasn't sick but unfortunately that wasn't true he had a sickness. My friend took him to a vet and then they said that he isn't gonna make it... He passed away today. They lied to her saying the kitten was healthy but in reality he wasn't healthy and had pneumonia while he was in the shelter before she adopted him and shelter people didn't know that he had pneumonia and said he was healthy while he wasn't .. And if the shelter found out early the kitten would have been alive not dead today.. Due to the shelter being careless a kitten lost his life today...

The worst experience with human beings ever!!!My family decided to get one more cat as a company to our two year-old rescue kitty. We filled out the "questionary" beforehand, we knew the cat we were coming for, we got our own carrier, packed my 4-year old toddler and went to get the new family member. So happy and excited till the moment we met the lady on the adoption desk. We wondered around the place where they kept cats around 40!!! Minutes. A lot of people were around taking care of animals. No assistance though. Finally, we got tired of walking back and forth poor meowing kitties who started crying every time you come close. It was heartbreaking. That's not to mention terrible urine smell which is understandable. My daughter got tired and we let her sit on the chair next to the empty desk. The Lady of the Shelter, apparently, was dismissing an animal at the other desk. She told us that we should NOT be there as she was having private conversation. For the question where should we wait, she answered somewhere in the area showing cat section without any seats or space to stay as the staff had to do their job. We just left. So frustrated. It just lookes like "the office" workers there just don't care about animals. It is terrible as I know so many people do almost impossible things to save the animals. And "paperwork ladies" just ruin everything with their attitude.

I dropped of 5 kittens on 8/10/16 at the Queens location. I was told on the phone and according to their description they are a no kill shelter. The volunteers/ workers were completely unhelpful and could care less about them. You would think that people who work in animal shelter. they made me sign a document stating if they cant find a rescue because they are so small they would be euthanized. they were in such bad shape they were going to die if they didn''t get food immediately. i begged them to do their best to save the kittens but kept one myself because i needed to save at least one. i asked if they could let me know before they were put down and they said to send them an email with the kittens ID's. i sent an email with no response. i just spoke with someone and they were all euthanized because they were too much work. this place isn't a kill shelter but rather a death center for animals.

Animal Care Centers of NYC is one of the bright spots in all of animal welfare. As one of the highest velocity open intake shelters in the country, their task is incredibly difficult. They have limited resources and space but they do the very best that they can with what they have.

In my personal experience, they have demonstrated sincere care and concern for the animals that they receive every day. Working in the animal welfare industry for several years myself, on both a regional and national level, I know very well the challenges of organizations and how NYC ACC compares. They are committed to lifesaving, being champions for adoptions, and open and appreciative of collaboration.

Please, head to NYC ACC if you're ever looking to adopt. Or, help them with their lifesaving mission by volunteering, donating, or fostering.

For the second time in 6 years I have walked out of ACC with my dream dog. Yes, I saw heartbreaking surrenders going on while I was there. For the one dog who left the facility with me, three more came in, just during my waiting time. The staff never have a moment when they are not juggling five things at once. Yes, the place is loud and it smells of frightened animals. If you suddenly found yourself far from your everyday surroundings with no clear idea of why you'd lost your home or what was going to happen next, you would probably react as many of these animals do - you'd carry on and yell and you'd be scared stiff. The staff of the Adoption Center does an incredible job, especially when you realize that ACC workers frequently see the ugliest side of what some sick people do to animals. (While I was there, a pug arrived who'd been found in an NYC park by a compassionate lady - the dog had multiple broken bones and the lady was there to have it put down, since vet bills were going to be staggering. I subsequently learned that the dog had been reprieved by placement with a rescue. Why, YES - ACC reaches out & liasons proactively with rescues.) Everyone who worked with me helping me adopt my dog was kind, patient, and totally professional. I was allowed ample time to get to know my new dog, do behavioral assessment tests in a private adoption room, and they provided a volunteer to accompany me on a walk with her THREE separate times. And this was NOT at a time when they weren't busy. Everyone was thrilled to learn that my dog was going to live in a house with a huge backyard in a quiet rural setting, and we were sent on our way with a brand new collar, leash & a bag of Science Diet food. My dog had to be spayed before I could pick her up, and she had her surgery yesterday. Today she is running around as happy as can be, acting like nothing out of the ordinary even happened to her, and so delighted to have a comfy sofa, lots of interesting new smells outside to follow around outside, and a family that already adores her. Yes, granted - it is a place where no animal wants to wind up. But what would happen to these homeless pets if there were no place that HAS to take EVERY animal, no matter what? ACC doesn't get to pick and choose. They do an incredible job advocating for getting these pets into the hands of responsible, loving owners, and I am deeply grateful for the fine work they do under extraordinarily difficult conditions.
