How do I start, first I went to the Bronx facility, bad location, absolutely no parking, and while they had lots of counter help, only one person was their "Hydraulics" expert ... and he, was far more interested in searching for "square nuts" and little parts for customers, the two guys who could have been doing that, and I stood there with our thumbs up our @##$# ,,, while he was calling places and rummaging thru the back .... after half an hour, the place who'es gate, I and another customer were blocking, with other people double parking us, needed access, so I left. Week later I went to the Patterson NJ location, had to be better? Sort of ... Very young guy, looked at my PTO pump motor, said flat out, "Oh, that's way to old, it's junk, I'm not going to do that " I said the machine works fine, but someone put the pto in the wrong range, and now the thing leaks, - all the time- machine still works, but you dump oil. But, ok, fine, tell me how many gpm it put out, I'll get a new one, I'll replace a pump that probably doesn't have 500 hours on it, but, I'm not junking an $8000 piece of equipment on your say so ... I try to explain that it seems to be leaking from the center of the shaft assembly ... he says "no, it's this outer seal, I'm only replacing that seal, that's where your problem is, I'm not rebuilding this ... We charge $100 an hour, it will cost you way to much to replace the seal, never mind rebuild this." And I say, look, even at that rate, it's still cheaper to repair this than to guess at a replacement, and get it wrong, just fix it ... and check it, make sure it doesn't leak .... He reluctantly writes it up (take's my name and numbers ) two weeks and $170 later, it's done, Go pick it up, Paperwork is stamped - replaced shaft seal, no-warranty - (note: I said it was leaking down in the center of the collar of the splines, - he said "not rebuilding it, it's this outer seal" But, he did send it out, and it says shaft seal replaced.... Take it, have it re-assembled, but, NOT mounted on the machine, just leave it on the floor, see if it leaks ... it does, about 1/2 gallon a day, from exactly where it was leaking ... Not sure what they did to order 396237, but they sure didn't fix it or test it .... Take this as a cautionary tale. OH! and I got a $24.53 "inbound freight -ups red" charge ... so, "he" didn't rebuild it, they shipped it somewhere else to get it done, ... and, I can't even ask those people if they tested it, or, what THEY would charge to do the job right .... again, just a cautionary tale.
This gets better, took them at their word, that they really tried to repair the pump/motor, spend weeks trying to find anyone who can tell me what to replace it with .. sent to a small place 90 miles north of me, take it there .... they take one look, "oh, we can actually rebuild that for you" So I leave it. They call to say, that the shaft seal, has never been touched, and that someone dropped the needle bearing inside, AND left out the key-way, key .... so if I had but it on, it wouldn't have worked, but if I had replaced the key and powered the PTO, it would have wrecked the thing .... They fixed the shaft seal, and the damage American Hose did, and actually charged me less! SO, I protested the American Hose charge on my credit card, and American Hose, insisted that the bill was fair, WHY? because they clearly wrote "no warranty on the bill ! Really ? That justifies shoddy work?
And when I tried calling them and asking how they could justify what they did ... they said I was warned that they did not want to service this pump, and it was therefore all my own fault. Mind you, I have two letters from the people who actually fixed it, stating clearly that they had damaged it, but, they, American Hose, actually said, that this damage, was my own fault, for leaving it with them.
Looking to sue for my time, and $ in small claims, but, as yet Bronx Court, NYS and NJ have no listing for them.by name.... legal fees mount, as I type.
