I don't get the hype. Their bacon, egg, and cheese sandwiches are awful, the people who work there are unfriendly and even rolled their eyes at me a couple times when I ordered/paid. Today, I asked for my roast beef sandwich to be HOT, he confirmed that it would be hot, and it is ICE COLD. I am 100% not impressed with this place.

Oh, sososo snooty. I had expected some pretension, given Blue Note's reputation as a historic and famed jazz club and one that's located in New York City, but still came away snobbery-shocked. Went here super stoked to watch The New Gary Burton Quartet. $45 for tables (before food/drinks), so boyfriend and I decide to test our luck with the $30 (unguaranteed, also before food/drinks) bar. When we arrive, doorman actually -snorts- at us when we tell him we've come sans reservations. He asks us for $60 cash for standing bar. We dutifully find an ATM, paying a $3 service charge to withdraw money, only to find out upon our return that Blue Note accepts credit cards for the door charge. Boyfriend and I try to stay positive. I ask, "Are there seats at the bar?" (FYI: Yes, there are, though they get snatched up real quick.) Doorman snorts at us -again-, saying, "Didn't I just tell you it's -standing- bar?" Boyfriend and I find a spot near the window and ask another member of the waitstaff whether we can order food. "I'll get you a menu," he says, then promptly forgets all about us. We decide to forego food and look around instead. We quickly observe that the "standing bar" is located just inside the front door, left of the stage, in a far corner where it's next to impossible to see the performing acts. It's also FREEZING. It's around 60 degrees outside, but I can swear the bar feels colder. We shiver through an hour of the performance and finally leave to ward off hypothermia and the feeling of being condescended to.

Totally underrated place. Great value, friendly service. My orders tend to be convoluted (no bun with my burger, hold the tomatoes on my salad) and they always come through. They'll even throw veggies in with my omelette when i can't eat the home fries.
The owner is an absolute pleasure. It's really nice to support a business that cares about your patronage and doesn't take you for granted. He always makes sure I'm satisfied with my order and I always am. Rockwell's might have the more visible location, but give this place a try!
