This facility is understaffed and poorly maintained and lacking all around.

The facillity:
The temperature in the rooms were either way too cold or way too hot, the building smells like urine & had to bring a plug in to be able to tolerate the smell.

The Staff:
I don’t know why the even have a sign in book, the receptionist doesn’t care whether you stop to sign in or not
The nurses let the aids do all the work. I witnessed a nurse ignore a patients “bell” while she sat behind the desk in her snoopy scrubs having a text conversation on her phone.
An Aid came in to change my Grandmother who is bed ridden and needed me to help her. One aid to lift and change dead weight? I can’t imagine how that would have gone if I wasn’t there.
The nurses are cluless, when I asked about why my grandmother after 3 weeks had a catheter in there was no real answer just maybe because of this, or this.
My grandmother ran out of oxygen and we had to alret the nursse of this, she sent an aid who changed the tank but didn’t bother to put the mask back on, we did that because she just left.
When my family expressed their concern about a wound and dehydration they didn’t seem to be very concerned (which in the end dhe was transferred to a hospital for dehydration)

Physical Therapy:
This is the only good thing I have to say about this place. The Physical Therapist were nice and did a great job.

In conclusion, this place is a joke, DO NOT send someone you love here!

DISLIKED THIS FACILITY....My Mother was there for 7 LONG months following a fall in her apt. at age 91; she was at Alaris at Belgrove, which was "OK" but the list for long-term nursing home care had 22 people on it, and they would not take anymore names. We looked around at others but because my Mother did not have Medicaid, and many places had a one to two-year waiting list, the only place she could go was an Alaris, and we settled on this one. The 3rd floor was "OK," but she had a roommate from hell (there like 7 yrs. and was very difficult...wanted things her way), so they moved my Mother to another room, then to the 4th floor...UGH, they have carpeting in the rooms and hallway, which smelled of urine many times. Also, many aides made my Mother and others wait to go to the bathroom (I saw some people asked 2 and 3 times!), and they told me Mother was confused, it was only 5 or 10 minutes, not 20 or more minutes! The dementia patients are mixed on the same floors with alert patients, and I saw quite a few confrontations, with the patients kicking staff, getting up from their wheelchair and hitting aides, which was very upsetting to my Mother and to us, and my complaints got no where many times. I finally had enough and transferred my Mother (now 92) to Daughters of Miriam in Clifton...WHAT A BIG DIFFERENCE...they got my Mother walking with a rolling walker and sitting on an arm chair whereas Alaris at Kearny kept her in a wheelchair! It was so depressing to visit my Mother at Alaris at Kearny, but we now see a huge difference in her personality and appearance...she wasn't confused at Alaris Kearny, she was miserable! Some staff members were good, some not so good. We felt so sorry for many of the patients, not sure if they were giving medication to sedate them or not, but they were "gathered" in the activity/dining room half asleep, then in the evenings, the residents were lined up at the nurses station...UGH...the administrator was not helpful either. DO NOT USE ALARIS HEALTH AT KEARNY, in fact I heard many Alaris facilities are not good.
