Brilliant and somber memorial with a fantastic and moving commemorative monument. The site is rather forgotten and under visited/ utilized which makes for a powerful and often solitary viewing and visiting experience.

A beautiful memorial to those who are buried there. There are a lot of intricate etchings into the stone structures. The best part is that it's all free!

As a site protected by the National Park Service, along with Mount Rushmore, Statute of Liberty, Grand Canyon, one may already presume before stepping in that this site is special. This National Monument at 0.34 acres memorializes the approximately 15,000 Africans that were buried within the surrounding 6.6 acres in the 17th and 18th centuries. While standing in the memorial's lower level, or circle of diaspora, one can almost forget they are in bustling Manhattan. Quite peaceful.
