I’m sorry to say, this is an unprofessional and shady dental practice, although everyone there (the staff) is nice. I absolutely do not recommend this place. It looks unclean as well, unfortunately. I only went to this place because it was close to where I was staying, and they were offering a groupon deal.
I should’ve known better than to go to a groupon-deal dentist, as no good dentist would need to resort to groupon. The “deal” was $30 for an exam, x-ray, consultation, and cleaning. The deal was for the x-ray and cleaning, as the exam and consultation is already free. They didn’t even ask for ID.. strange.
I should’ve known something was shady when they seemed to have two different business names? One online/on groupon (“Advanced Implant and Cosmetic Dental P.C.), and one on the tiny sign (Dynamic Dental World) when I actually showed up. I later found them online as “Jamaica Dental Centre” as well! But I already made an appointment (exam, X-rays, cleaning, consultation) and there was a high cancelation fee, so I went with it.
The dentist, Ben Moktar, *clearly* didn’t think I was worth his time, although he was pleasant overall. He seemed to be in the middle of treating another patient, and rushed quite a bit through everything.
Maybe I should’ve mentioned that I have 10,000 followers on social media and am working on a blog… maybe he would have been more thorough -sigh-
He barely even looked at my teeth (didn’t look closely, didn’t even turn the light on!), and vaguely announced what work I needed done, and threw out an outrageously high price that didn’t make sense. I have never in my life had a dentist gave me a diagnosis and quote after doing little more than *glancing* at my teeth. He was more interested in getting me to pay up rather than what I actually needed done *exactly*, and explaining further. He brushed off a lot of my questions and was basically trying to get out of there ASAP, as he seemed very busy. I asked him to look again and he gave me a vaguely different answer of what I needed fixed, leaving me very confused.
He RUSHED through the cleaning, spending 5 minutes at the most (I know they should take at least 15 min). I complained that I felt “gunk” in the inside of my teeth (due to an improper cleaning?), and he would not return to the room, until the hygienist persisted (after I kept complaining). He then proceeded to tell me that I needed a gum treatment instead of cleaning a little more.
Since I wouldn’t pay up the outrageous amount, or agree to go on a payment plan, *on the spot*… he laughed and he walked out, saying, and I quote “you’re not serious, come back when you’re serious”.
They also refused to “release” the x-rays I paid for unless I paid more! Finally they said they would “waive” it this time. I think that’s illegal. Now I need to make another trip back to pick up the x-rays (because, DUH, I will be going to complain to another dentist!).
I seriously don’t understand why the dentist (Ben Moktar) didn’t put more effort into being thorough (with the exam, and the cleaning) and clear, and instead acted more like a salesman. That’s no way to earn the trust of a new patient. Why would you have a groupon deal if you don’t need new patients? Clearly you don’t think you need them..
I just wish he had been more thorough; I don’t know how else one would win over a first time visitor.
I left there feeling ripped off, upset, and confused. Well, at least it only cost me a $30.
I came back the next day to pick up the x-rays I forgot to request (but had paid for), and no word of lie, they actually PRINTED them out on *paper* (very small), instead of giving the actual x-rays! How is that useful to me? They also would not email them.
I am a generally laid back/easy going person, and it takes a lot for me to get seriously pissed off by a business and put this much effort into writing a lengthy review…
