Acme pickled herring is the absolute finest tasting and best texture of any brand, and they use the best quality fish, which is very apparent. Always firm and never mushy. Always great fine fish flavor. Packed with plenty of crunchy onions to compliment those firm fillet chunks. I have been eating pickled herring as my midnight snack for about 25 years, have eaten all the brands available. and I know good fish. Have been a commercial fisherman and dealt in fresh fish for years.....All the brands are good, acceptable, edible, okay, good enough, alright, and etc....But, ACME is hands down the absolute best available.....scrumptious, delectable, primo, superb, delicious and etc......Walmart was carrying it and now stopped and started carrying Nathans, just a tad better than okay......I can't bring myself to eat this inferior brand any longer.....If you love pickled herring try ACME and you will be hooked on that brand......I am......I want my ACME back!!

This is a wholesale smoked fish place in Greenpoint. It is only open on Friday mornings and there is always a line. The line is shorter the earlier you go though. The selection of smoked fish is great and you can sample everything. I like getting the different varieties of smoked salmon: regular, dill, Chicago style (sweet and spicy), lemon pepper, spicy, and pastrami. It's sold at wholesale prices so about $17-$18/lb. It's even better than Costco prices. They also have whole smoked fish like whitefish and trout. Also, their smoked fish spreads are pretty good too.

When I first walked in to the Friday morning market, I didn't know that I had arrived in heaven until I started tasting the smoked fish. Fresh is the word, notably fresh and worth the effort to get there.

Many varieties of smoked fish, pickled herring, and some extras like fish jerky are here on Friday mornings only for seemingly around a third less than the stores that buy from them wholesale. Sometimes the line is long, but it moves. Samples of various varieties are available before you buy. If you want smoked fish (including varieties like DAvid Burke's pastrami lox) or pickled herring (my preference) and are nearby on Fridays before 1:00, this is the place.
