My wife and I have been coming here regularly for a while, but after returning from an extended trip to Japan we find our selves even more impressed with 1or8. The sushi is fantastic, due in no small part to chef Kazuo Yoshido's attention to detail, and while I would consider his work the feature the kitchen in no way falls behind. On one or two occasions I've brought friends from out of town who don't eat sushi, and their dishes have always been fantastic as well. Although the price is higher than your normal neighborhood sushi shop, the quality far outstrips anything in the boroughs and is, in my opinion, on par with any of the higher end Japanese restaurants in the city. Add all that to a phenomenal sake selection and their new collection of teas and I can't think of anywhere that compares. If you come in you may well see me there.

I loved the food (miso soup, dumplings, and ceviche).. the sushi was pretty good too (thought I've experienced better). The service wasn't so great - there wasn't anyone at the check-in desk for quite some time and our waitress was not attentive. Although I had mixed feelings about the architectural details and so-much-white, the restaurant itself is pretty and quite spacious.

I did came here with a certain expectation, but it turns out, never be so sure. When one comes to a sushi place, nonetheless wherever it is located, the criticism is always on the sushi itself. A eight pieces sushi combination ends up with a horribly displayed eel sushi while the eel was falling apart into two pieces, other than than, there is a hair next to my salmon piece. Cleanness is the most important part of any dinning experience and it seems 1 or 8 have no interest in that despite its price to be a fancy sushi place. Also the fact that they didn't replace the entire plate but only the salmon piece was really get into my nerd. I file a complain but never hear back from them. totally worthless and I urge you not wasting your time on this restaurant. GBY
