He quickly befriended the barber, Ryan Evans and soon started an apprenticeship cleaning the salon and observing the craft. At an early age Adrian realized a great haircut experience was not only about providing a good haircut but genuinely caring about the client needs, providing a listening ear while creating a relaxed and comfortable environment. `Three years later he moved to New York City with the expectation of opening his own salon but he soon realized that it would take a lot more work and sacrifice then he previously imagined. He worked his way up by building relationships and a clientele along the way. Nine years later he opened Adrian Fanus Grooming in the Clinton Hills Sections of Brooklyn at the hight of the recession and against the advice of many people who assumed the business would fail. He realized over the years of working at a few other shops that there was a demographic of men and women who were not comfortable coming to the barbershops because of their sexuality and the machoism, lack of professionalism and ego of the barbershop culture further pushed them away. He vowed to change that and create a business that was professional, inclusive, and nonjudgemental. “ People are coming for a great grooming experience and their personal lifestyle has nothing to do with anyone else”, Adrian often says. His friends needed haircuts and could not afford it. They came up with the brilliant idea to purchase some clippers at Rite Aid and entrusted Nef to do their haircuts. They were convinced that since he could draw, cutting their hair would be an easy transition. It was a decision that they would immediately regret. The experience ignited a passion for barbering and Nef never looked back. He soon became the neighborhood barber and got mentoring from a Master barber by the name of Tim. He apprenticed for a few years and became a master barber himself. Barbering gives him the opportunity to meet people from all different walks of life and learn from their experiences. Nef will be the first to tell you that it is not about the money for him. Raised in Brooklyn New York with his family roots from Grenada, Nef has a very laid back personality. Fades are his favorite haircut to do. They allow his artistic and creative side to flourish with the different variations, gradients and transitions in them. When he is not engaging in his love for barbering he is spending time with his wife and two children. Giving back to his community is very important to him. Nef lives by the motto, “each one, teach one.”

In his spare time he enjoy spending time with wife and family, perfecting his english, working out and roller blading.
